Iran Seizes Foreign Oil Tanker Suspected of Fuel Smuggling in the Sea of Oman

TEHRAN (APS) – Iranian authorities have seized a foreign oil tanker in the Sea of Oman on suspicion of fuel smuggling, the country’s judiciary announced on Wednesday.
The vessel was intercepted after an inspection of its cargo documents revealed “incomplete information,” according to Mojtaba Ghahremani, head of the judiciary in the southern province of Hormozgan, as reported by Mizan Online.
The tanker was reportedly carrying “two million liters of smuggled fuel.” Ghahremani stated that 17 individuals, including the ship’s captain and crew members, have been detained. The identities and nationalities of the suspects have not been disclosed.
Authorities are currently conducting laboratory tests and reviewing documentation to verify the cargo’s contents and its legality, the report added.
