Iran Says Indirect Talks With U.S. Confirm Commitment to Diplomatic Track

Iran’s Foreign Ministry said Tuesday that recent nuclear-related discussions with the United States allowed Tehran to assess Washington’s seriousness and revealed a shared understanding to continue along the diplomatic track.
According to the ministry’s spokesperson, Nasser Kanani Baghaei, American and Iranian diplomats held indirect exchanges last week in Muscat, Oman, through Omani mediators, in an effort to revive diplomacy. The talks came after U.S. President Donald Trump deployed a naval fleet to the region, raising concerns about the possibility of new military actions.
“The Muscat meeting was not long. From our perspective, it was aimed at evaluating the seriousness of the other side and how to proceed on this path,” Kanani Baghaei said. He added that following the discussions, Iran concluded there was “an understanding and a consensus to continue the diplomatic process.”
The spokesperson also clarified that the visit to Oman on Tuesday by Ali Larijani, adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader, had been planned well in advance as part of regional consultations, noting that Larijani would later travel to Qatar.
