Iran, Russia to Sign Agreement for Construction of Eight Nuclear Power Plants

Iran and Russia are preparing to finalize an agreement in the coming days for the construction of new nuclear power plants, Iranian Vice President and Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), Mohammad Eslami, announced on Monday. Speaking to reporters in Moscow, Eslami said the deal envisions Russia building eight nuclear facilities in Iran. Four of these will be located in Bushehr, while Iran must inform Russia about the construction of the additional plants under the contract’s terms.

Eslami noted that all necessary studies and negotiations for the implementation of the second phase of the agreement have been completed. He confirmed that the sites for the new power plants have already been identified, prepared, and equipped to begin work.

“Prior visits to the construction sites have been carried out, and contractual negotiations have taken place. With the signing of this week’s agreement, we will automatically enter the operational phase to advance design, engineering, and complementary activities,” Eslami stated.
