Iran Rejects U.S. Sanctions Pretexts as Baseless in Call with Iraqi Counterpart

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi dismissed U.S. sanctions against Iran’s oil industry as baseless during a phone call with his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein. He accused Washington of fabricating claims to pressure Tehran and warned against U.S. attempts to sow discord among regional countries, aligning with what he called Zionist plots.
The discussion followed Iraq’s recent distancing from the Axis of Resistance and allegations that Iranian oil tankers used forged documents. The two diplomats also discussed ongoing Zionist attacks on Gaza and Lebanon, as well as U.S. military actions in Yemen. Araqchi denounced these aggressions as violations of ceasefire agreements and urged regional countries to resist U.S. interference.
Hussein voiced concern over rising tensions and called for regional cooperation to protect Palestinian lives and prevent further destabilization. The Iraqi foreign minister stressed the importance of collective action to uphold regional peace and security.
