Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei has strongly criticized French President Emmanuel Macron’s recent statements about Iran, calling them “baseless and contradictory.”
Baghaei urged Macron to reassess France’s approach to peace and stability in the West Asian region, following the French president’s remarks during his annual conference with French ambassadors, where he outlined foreign policy goals for 2025.
Macron’s comments targeted Iran’s regional influence, nuclear program, and foreign policies, labeling Iran as the primary “strategic and security challenge” in the Middle East. He also expressed concerns about Iran’s nuclear ambitions, claiming they were “close to the point of no return.”
In response, Baghaei highlighted that the real threat to regional peace is the Israeli occupation, which, with support from the U.S. and some European countries, continues to spread aggression across the region.
Baghaei rejected Macron’s criticisms, asserting that Iran’s nuclear activities are peaceful and fully compliant with international law, monitored by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). He also accused France of hypocrisy for failing to honor its commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and for supporting a nuclear-armed Israel.
Additionally, Baghaei rejected Macron’s assertions regarding Iran’s involvement in the Ukrainian conflict, calling them an attempt to obscure the destructive role played by major global powers in the crisis. He also expressed surprise at Macron’s criticism of Iran’s relations with African countries, emphasizing that such judgments are rooted in a colonial mindset.
