Iran Not Seeking Nuclear Weapons Despite NPT Exit Debate, Says Foreign Ministry

Iran is not seeking to acquire nuclear weapons despite ongoing discussions in parliament about a potential withdrawal from the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said.

Baqaei stated that Iran did not participate in a meeting in Islamabad with the United States and confirmed that there have been no direct negotiations between Tehran and Washington since the previous round of talks. He described proposals conveyed by the US as “excessive and unreasonable.”

He added that, given the intensifying attacks by the United States and the zionist entity on Iran, Tehran’s priority is focused on defending the country. Baqaei also accused the US and Israel of using the conflict to obscure the truth from both the Iranian public and the international community, while simultaneously targeting journalists and media outlets.
