Iran Has Never Had and Will Never Have a Nuclear Weapons Program, AEOI Chief

The Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), Mohammad Eslami, reaffirmed on Wednesday that Iran has never had, and will never have, a nuclear weapons program. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a cabinet meeting, Eslami responded to U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent remarks asserting that Iran cannot possess nuclear weapons.

“Iran never had, does not have now, and never will have a program [to produce] nuclear weapons,” Eslami declared. He emphasized that Iran’s stance on nuclear weapons is clear and consistent.

This statement comes as President Trump signed a memo on Tuesday, renewing his “maximum pressure” campaign aimed at preventing Iran from developing an atomic bomb. Despite international concerns, Iran continues to maintain that its nuclear activities are for peaceful purposes, under the framework of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
