Instability in the Middle East: Beijing Calls for a Global Ceasefire

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated on Friday that China’s top priorities regarding the ongoing instability in the Middle East are to establish a global ceasefire and to alleviate the humanitarian crisis.

During a joint press conference with his Egyptian counterpart, who was visiting Beijing, the Chinese diplomat emphasized that “the solution lies in adhering to political resolution, resuming dialogue, and engaging in negotiations. The fundamental principle is to support self-determination and to avoid any external interference.”

Additionally, while addressing the situation in Syria, Wang expressed that China advocates for the swift realization of peace in the country and encourages the implementation of a reconstruction plan that aligns with the expectations of its people through inclusive dialogue.

Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, further stated, “China is deeply concerned about the recent instability in Syria.” He affirmed, “China has long pursued a policy of friendship and cooperation with Syria, has never interfered in Syrian internal affairs, and has respected the choices of the Syrian people.”
