In a First in France, Sarkozy Sentenced to One Year of Electronic Bracelet Monitoring

France’s highest court, the Court of Cassation, has upheld the ruling of the appeal court, which found former President Nicolas Sarkozy guilty of corruption. As a result, the conviction is now final.

Sarkozy, who served as president from 2007 to 2012, faces one year in prison but will be allowed to serve the sentence at home with an electronic bracelet.

This ruling marks a significant precedent, as it is the first time such a measure has been applied to a former French president. Sarkozy, who retired from public life in 2017, can request home detention, as per French law for sentences of two years or less.
