ICMG condemns programming the Handball African competition during the same period with Oran Mediterranean Games

The International Mediterranean Games Commission proclaim and condemn throughout its second Vice-President Bernard Amsalem. the setting up of the ‘African Handball Championship’ that will take a place at the same period as the nineteenth Mediterranean Games in ORAN from June 25 to July 5, 2022.

Bernard Amsalem stated, at a press conference, that his body commission “strongly opposes the upcoming African Handball Championship at the same time as the Mediterranean Games”, Saying “We are also in contact with the other concerned sports bodies, primarily the International Olympic Sports Committee to force the African Handball Federation to reschedule the tournament date “ It is worth mentioning that the African Handball Championship was pre-scheduled from 13 to 23 January, before being postponed from 22 June to 2 July in Morocco.

Bernard Amsalem added that he was surprised by the position of the African Handball Federation “especially since it was aware of the dates of the Mediterranean Games set almost two years ago.

” The same reaction also came from the Governor of the Games, Mohamed Aziz Derouaz, present at this press seminar, who strongly criticized the decision of the continental body responsible for small ball in Africa, Saying “Frankly, the decision of the African Confederation raises a big question mark about the motives behind it which would deprive Egypt, Tunisia and even Morocco, the organizers of the African Championships, of participation in two important tournaments, because of their overlapping dates.

” To recall, Algeria decided to boycott this coming African handball Championship because a part of its activities will be held in the city of Laayoune that is occupied by Morocco.
