IATF 2025: Sonatrach Signs MoU with National Oil Corporation of Kenya

Algeria’s state-owned energy group Sonatrach signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kenya National Oil Corporation on the sidelines of the 4th Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2025), aimed at supplying the Kenyan market with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and petroleum products, while also launching joint projects in hydrocarbon exploration and production.

According to Sonatrach’s CEO, the agreement provides a practical framework for cooperation between the two companies through the exchange of expertise and the implementation of joint exploration and production projects. It also outlines plans to supply the Kenyan market with LPG and refined petroleum products. Furthermore, the MoU includes a feasibility study for establishing a dedicated trading platform for LPG, petroleum products, lubricants, and petrochemicals.

The agreement also envisions developing the use of LPG as an alternative fuel for vehicles and for household consumption. Additionally, Sonatrach will supervise specialized training programs for Kenyan company staff, reinforcing technical and professional capabilities. The CEO emphasized that this agreement will generate mutual benefits for both Algeria and Kenya, reaffirming Sonatrach’s commitment to principles of cooperation and to building fruitful partnerships that serve the goals of sustainable development across Africa.
