Hydrogen : Spanish Company Coolergy Interested in Investing in Algeria

ALGIERS- The secretary of State to the Algerian minister of Energy, for Renewable Energy, Noureddine Yassaa, received Wednesday in Algiers the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Spanish company “Coolergy,” Kirill Lyats, who expressed his company’s interest in taking advantage of the opportunities available in Algeria in the hydrogen field, the ministry of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energy said in a statement.
The two sides, met at the at the ministry’s headquarters in the presence of senior executives, explored cooperation and investment opportunities between Sonatrach and Coolergy S.L in hydrogen development.
The discussions also focused on “liquid hydrogen techniques, including liquefaction, storage and transport, while benefitting from the Spanish experience in the field.
The two sides stressed “the potential for developing the use of hydrogen in transport, including liquid hydrogen-powered trains, ships, trucks and buses,” the statement said.
The secretary of State put forward Algeria’s great potential in terms of green and blue hydrogen, noting the “importance of strategic partnerships for the development of integrated infrastructure, to consolidate the country’s position as a hydrogen production and exportation hub.
The CEO of the Spanish company stressed the willingness of Coolergy to boost cooperation with Algeria, especially with Sonatrach, in hydrogen production projects.
Lyats said Algeria is a “strategic partner” for his company, as Coolergy plans to create liquid hydrogen production centres in Africa and Europe.”
