Hungary: Ukraine’s Attack on TurkStream Targets the Sovereignty of Gas-Receiving Countries

Ukraine’s recent attempt to disrupt gas supplies to Europe by attacking a TurkStream compressor station has been condemned by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto. The Russian Defense Ministry reported that Ukraine launched nine drones on January 11, 2025, targeting the compressor station near Russia’s Anapa in Krasnodar Territory. The aim was to halt gas deliveries through the TurkStream pipeline. Russian air defenses intercepted all drones, though one caused slight damage to the station’s equipment.

Szijjarto stressed that energy supply security is essential to national sovereignty, declaring that any action threatening energy security should be viewed as an attack on sovereignty.
