Hungary Blocks EU Plan to Send Military Advisors into Ukraine

Hungary has strongly opposed a European Union proposal to deploy military advisors and relocate its Ukrainian training mission onto Ukrainian soil, calling it a red line. Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó reaffirmed his government’s position following an EU foreign ministers’ meeting in Luxembourg, as reported by M1 TV.
“Our key condition is that such a mission can only operate outside Ukraine,” Szijjártó stated, warning that even the presence of instructors or advisors within Ukraine could dangerously escalate the ongoing conflict.
Hungary’s stance places it at odds with other EU member states pushing for deeper military engagement in support of Kyiv, as the bloc weighs options to reinforce Ukraine amid continued conflict.
