Hungarian Author Laszlo Krasznahorkai Wins 2025 Nobel Prize in Literature

Hungarian novelist Laszlo Krasznahorkai has been awarded the 2025 Nobel Prize in Literature, the Swedish Academy announced on Thursday. The Academy praised him “for his compelling and visionary oeuvre that, in the midst of apocalyptic terror, reaffirms the power of art.”
In its statement, the Nobel Committee described Krasznahorkai as “a great epic writer in the Central European tradition that extends through Kafka to Thomas Bernhard,” noting that his works are marked by “absurdism and grotesque excess.”
Known for his dense, flowing prose and dark philosophical themes, Krasznahorkai has long been regarded as one of Europe’s most influential contemporary writers, with works such as “Satantango” and “The Melancholy of Resistance” earning international acclaim.
