High-Level Colloquium on Religious Diplomacy in Sahel Opens in Algiers

A high-level scientific colloquium, entitled “Religious Diplomacy in the Sahel: Challenges and Prospects,” opened Wednesday in Algiers, focusing on promoting values of moderation and balance to safeguard African societies from extremism.

The colloquium, organized by the League of Scholars, Preachers and Imams of the Sahel Countries, in cooperation with the High Islamic Council, was held in the presence of the Speaker of the People’s National Assembly Brahim Boughali, the rector of Djamaa al-Djazair, Sheikh Mohamed Maamoun El Kacimi El Hoceini, Advisor to the President of the Republic in charge of Religious Affairs, Zawiyas and Qur’anic Schools, Mohamed Hassouni, General Caliph of the Tariqa Tidjania, Cheikh Sidi Ali Belarabi Tidjani, President of the High Islamic Council, Mabrouk Zaid El-Kheir, Secretary General of the League of Scholars, Preachers and Imams of the Sahel Countries, as well as Director General of the National Institute for Global Strategic Studies Abdelaziz Medjahed.

The colloquium will feature a specialized academic session and presentations by distinguished scholars and lecturers from Algeria and abroad, including Dr. Abderrahmane Senouci and Professor Mohamed Dhaif from Algeria, Sheikh Moussa Sarr from Mauritania, Dr. Hamza Ahmada Moussa from Chad and Sheikh Alfa Dahia Konta from Mali.
