Hamas: Trump’s Statements on Gaza Could “Ignite” the Middle East

GAZA, February 5, 2025 – The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has strongly condemned President Donald Trump’s “absurd” comments regarding the “control” of the Gaza Strip, warning that such remarks could “ignite” tensions throughout the Middle East.

“The statements made by Trump about his desire to control Gaza are both ridiculous and absurd; any notion of this kind has the potential to inflame the region,” said Sami Abu Zuhri, a spokesperson for Hamas, as reported by various media outlets.

Hamas further asserted that it “will not allow any country in the world to occupy” Palestinian territory following Trump’s claim that the United States “would take control of the Gaza Strip.” This area has endured over 15 months of devastating Zionist aggression, and a ceasefire has been in effect since January 19.

The Palestinian resistance movement urged the U.S. administration and President Trump to retract “these irresponsible statements, which contradict international law and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to their land.”
