Half a Million Gaza Children Need Urgent Nutritional Aid (UNRWA)

“Approximately 500,000 children under the age of five urgently need life-saving nutritional support,” said Inas Hamdan, the Director of Communications at UNRWA in Gaza.

In a statement on Thursday, Hamdan emphasized that Palestinians in Gaza “are enduring inhumane conditions after 300 days of continuous conflict, marked by ongoing displacement, loss, despair, and severe shortages of food, medicine, water, and fuel.”

She also pointed out that “around 85% of school buildings in Gaza have experienced significant damage, with some completely destroyed, necessitating substantial rehabilitation and reconstruction before they can be utilized again.”

Hamdan further stated that “about 60% of medical supplies and equipment in healthcare centers have been depleted, severely hampering the humanitarian response and negatively impacting the delivery of essential services.”

Earlier today, UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini warned that children in Gaza “are living through unimaginable traumas and atrocities after 300 days of Zionist aggression, displacement, and suffering.” He announced the launch of the “Return to Learning” program, which aims to provide Gaza’s children with activities that offer a refuge from the horrors they continue to face.

Describing the condition of Gaza’s children, Lazzarini remarked, “They have witnessed what no child should ever see, and they deserve safety.” He described UNRWA’s initiative as a “small contribution to help these children reconnect with their stolen childhoods.”

Since October 7, 2023, Zionist forces have conducted an assault on Gaza, resulting in more than 130,000 Palestinian casualties, most of whom are women and children, over 10,000 missing individuals, widespread devastation, and famine claiming the lives of numerous children.

Despite two United Nations Security Council resolutions demanding an immediate cessation of hostilities and orders from the International Court of Justice to adopt measures preventing acts of genocide and improving the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza, the Zionist aggression continues unabated.
