Guterres Calls for Full Restoration of Syria’s Sovereignty, Demands End to Aggression

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has called for the complete restoration of Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and unity, stressing that all acts of aggression against the country must cease immediately.

Guterres specifically condemned Zionist airstrikes, describing them as violations of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He urged that such attacks stop and reiterated the necessity of a demilitarized zone in the Golan Heights, where no military forces, except for UN peacekeepers, should be present.

In further developments, Guterres appointed Mexican lawyer Karla Quintana to lead an independent institution focused on investigating missing persons in Syria, aiming to bring clarity and justice for those affected by the ongoing conflict.

Additionally, the UN chief emphasized the organization’s role in facilitating a political transition in Syria, which must be inclusive, credible, and peaceful, as part of the broader efforts to stabilize the country.
