Growing Outcry in Morocco Over Participation of Zionist Academics in Rabat Sociology Forum

A wave of condemnation continues in Morocco over the participation of representatives from Zionist universities in the International Sociology Forum held in Rabat, as well as the violent suppression of a protest organized in rejection of academic normalization and Zionist infiltration of Moroccan universities.
The National Union of Moroccan Students strongly denounced the inclusion of Zionist researchers in the fifth edition of the Sociology Forum, taking place in Rabat from July 6 to 11. The union also condemned the forceful intervention by security forces to disperse a demonstration organized by the Moroccan Front in Support of Palestine and Against Normalization, which coincided with the forum’s opening session on Sunday.
The presence of Zionist participants sparked widespread opposition among Moroccan academics, including students, researchers, faculty, and administrative staff, alongside various political and human rights groups. Many emphasized that universities should embody noble human values and stand firmly against systemic oppression faced by the Palestinian people.
The student union called on relevant authorities to take “responsible and bold” action to prevent the participation of Zionist researchers in the forum, reiterating its categorical rejection of all forms of academic normalization and Zionist presence in Moroccan universities, as well as any agreements with the Zionist entity.
In a related development, on Monday, a group of Moroccan sociologists who boycotted the forum held an alternative academic session to expose the Zionist narrative. The event, supported by the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement, aimed to express solidarity with the Palestinian people and to denounce normalization with Israeli academic institutions implicated in the ongoing genocide against Palestinians.
