Gold Tops $4,000 an Ounce for First Time

Gold surpassed $4,000 an ounce for the first time on Wednesday, buoyed by its safe-haven appeal amid growing market uncertainty and a U.S. budget deadlock.
The precious metal hit $4,001.11 an ounce at 02:00 GMT in early Asian trading. On the New York Commodities Exchange (Comex), December delivery futures had already crossed the $4,000 mark on Tuesday.
