Germany Set to Announce Largest Defense Spending Plan Since World War II

Germany is preparing to launch its most extensive defense spending initiative since World War II, as Chancellor-designate Friedrich Merz unveiled a plan to boost the military budget by approximately €1 trillion.

On Tuesday, the German parliament (Bundestag) voted in favor of the bill, marking a turning point in the country’s defense strategy. The decision reflects Germany’s growing commitment to playing a more active role in European and global security after years of reduced defense investments.

Merz’s plan includes major arms deals, including the purchase of new fighter jets.
