Germany Considers Buying U.S. Patriot Systems for Ukraine

The German government announced on Friday that it is considering the purchase of U.S.-made Patriot air defense systems to supply them to Ukraine, following the United States’ recent decision to suspend certain arms deliveries to Kyiv.

Government spokesperson Steffen Kornelius, responding to a question about the potential purchase, said:
“There are several ways to address the shortage of Patriot systems. You mentioned only one of them. I can confirm that intensive discussions are already underway on this matter.”

The move comes after reports from U.S. media outlets that Washington has paused shipments of certain weapons to Ukraine, including missiles used in the Patriot air defense system.

Germany has previously provided military support to Ukraine, and this potential acquisition would represent another effort to compensate for shortfalls caused by shifting U.S. policy.
