Gaza Health Authorities Warn of “Catastrophic” Lab Supply Shortage

The health authorities in the Gaza Strip warned on Wednesday of a “catastrophic” shortage of laboratory supplies, stressing that this situation severely impacts the provision of medical care to Palestinian patients.

“The shortage of laboratory supplies has surpassed catastrophic levels, which affects patient care,” local media reported.

According to the same source, 75% of chemical testing materials are unavailable, and 90% of blood testing and transfusion supplies have been depleted.

Authorities further reported that essential tests for patients with endocrine disorders, cancer, and kidney transplants, along with blood electrolyte examinations, have been suspended, while 72% of bacterial culture testing materials remain unavailable as laboratories and blood banks have received no new supplies for months. Health authorities in the Gaza Strip stressed that “the continuation of this suspension risks further worsening the crisis, hindering patient diagnoses and surgical procedures,” and called on relevant bodies to urgently intervene to reinforce laboratory and blood bank supplies.

The toll from the Zionist aggression on Gaza since October 7, 2023, has reached 71,391 deaths and 171,279 injuries.
