Gastech 2024: Sonatrach Holds Key Meetings with Energy Firms

Rachid Hachichi, the CEO of the Algerian oil company Sonatrach, along with his delegation at the global energy conference “Gastech” in Houston, USA, engaged in significant working meetings with various energy companies, including the Italian firm ENI, as reported in a joint statement.

The meetings commenced on Wednesday with a session featuring Brusco Guido, the General Director of upstream activities at ENI. The discussions largely centered on cooperation and the potential for developing partnerships between the two organizations, according to the same source.

Additionally, they addressed the status of ongoing negotiations regarding contracts linking both parties in relation to several projects, including In Salah, In Amenas, and Berkine.

Following this meeting, the Sonatrach delegation convened with Vimal Kapur, the CEO of Honeywell, a company renowned for its oil services and innovative technological solutions for automated monitoring systems within the energy sector.

During their discussions, both parties explored avenues to enhance their existing partnership under the memorandum of understanding signed in 2022, which aims to modernize Sonatrach’s facilities by identifying effective technologies to reduce carbon footprints and improve digitization efforts that enhance operational performance, as outlined in the communiqué.

Furthermore, Hachichi and his team met with Hitoshi Nara, the General Director of the Japanese company Yokogawa, along with other company executives. Yokogawa specializes in producing measurement and control devices, information technology, cybersecurity, and automation.

On this occasion, the Japanese company expressed its intention to deepen its involvement in Sonatrach’s projects, allowing Sonatrach to benefit from Yokogawa’s extensive expertise in its area of specialization.

Subsequently, the Algerian delegation had discussions with the CEO of the Norwegian company ICA-Finance, which focuses on implementing gas and methane emissions detection technologies (LDAR – Leak Detection and Repair). ICA-Finance offers high-level expertise, executing and financing gas emission detection projects while recouping its investments through revenues generated from carbon credits.

Hachichi and his delegation concluded their series of meetings with representatives from the German company Uniper, which expressed interest in sourcing natural gas from Sonatrach and its desire to establish a joint partnership in the renewable energy sector, as indicated in the public company’s communiqué.
