Gabon: Oligui Nguema Elected President with 94.85% of the Votes (Minister)

The Gabonese Minister of Interior and Security, Hermann Immongault, announced on Friday the new “consolidated” provisional results, which attribute 94.85% of the votes to transitional president Brice Oligui Nguema in the presidential election held on April 12. This figure represents an increase from the 90.35% reported the day after the election.

The minister clarified that this revision followed a thorough double verification of the results obtained by the eight candidates in the election.

Additionally, former Prime Minister Alain Claude Bilie By Nze experienced a slight increase in his vote share, now standing at 3.11%, up from the initial 3.02%.

Immongault noted that the preliminary results announced on April 13 “contained calculation errors,” leading to a discrepancy of 4.82%. This inconsistency was addressed through an “exercise in compilation and double verification” of physical reports from all polling stations, both domestically and abroad.

According to the minister, these “consolidated” results will be submitted to the transitional Constitutional Court.

The court is expected to publish the final results within eight days, provided there are no electoral disputes that it must resolve.

The newly elected president will take the oath of office following the announcement of the final results by the Constitutional Court.
