France’s Support for “Autonomy Plan” for Western Sahara: MOUDAF Expresses Outrage

The Dynamic Movement of Algerians in France (MOUDAF) expressed its outrage on Friday in a statement criticizing France’s support for the alleged “autonomy plan” for Western Sahara, describing this stance as “dangerous for the region.”

MOUDAF voiced its disapproval of “the unilateral decision taken by French President Emmanuel Macron” regarding the so-called “autonomy plan proposed by Morocco.” The group characterized this position as “perilous and potentially dangerous for the region,” asserting that it contradicts the principles and provisions of the United Nations Security Council, which seeks a political solution that respects international law.

Given France’s status as a permanent member of the Security Council, MOUDAF argued that the country’s position represents “a breach of impartiality contrary to the Charter of the United Nations.” They reminded that the UN considers Western Sahara “the last colony in Africa.”

Recalling the United Nations resolution to organize a referendum in Western Sahara following the acceptance of settlement proposals by both Morocco and the Polisario Front, MOUDAF asserts that only adherence to international legality can ensure the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination.
