France : PS to Vote for “Censure” if No Agreement Reached with the Left

Socialist Party (PS) Deputy Philippe Brun has warned that if no agreement is reached with the left, the PS will vote for a “censure” motion in the National Assembly. This warning comes as a critical phase of budget negotiations is taking place, with discussions being held in a joint commission of senators and deputies to reach a compromise on the national budget.
The commission began its work on Thursday morning, aiming to create a compromise version of the budget to be reviewed in the Assembly on Monday. However, the possibility of using the 49.3 procedure to bypass a vote and push the budget through without parliamentary approval looms, which would likely lead to a censure motion.
Brun expressed hope that compromises could be found and emphasized the PS’s openness to dialogue. He urged the Macronist and Republican parties to also be open to finding a solution with the left. However, he made it clear that if no progress is made, the PS will be forced to take decisive action.
