France : Political Chaos as President Macron Declines to Appoint Left-Wing Coalition PM

France is facing a deepening political crisis after President Emmanuel Macron refused to appoint a prime minister from the left-wing coalition, the New Popular Front (NFP), which won the most parliamentary seats in last month’s snap election. The refusal follows Macron’s consultations with party leaders aimed at resolving the deadlock in the divided Assemblée Nationale, where no single block holds a majority.
Macron’s decision not to choose the NFP’s candidate, Lucie Castets, has sparked outrage among the left-wing parties, who argue that this undermines democratic outcomes. The NFP, which includes France Unbowed (LFI), the Socialist Party (PS), the Greens (EELV), and the Communist Party (PCF), has threatened impeachment proceedings against Macron and called for demonstrations. Macron defended his decision by stating that a government led by the NFP would face immediate no-confidence votes and would be unable to function effectively.
The political stalemate continues as Macron plans further consultations, while the NFP insists on a prime minister from their coalition and warns of further political instability if their demands are not met.
