France: Angry Farmers Continue Road Blockades Over Cattle Disease Management

Traffic disruptions continue in the Rhône region, particularly south of Lyon, as French farmers have maintained road blockades since Monday in protest against the government’s handling of the outbreak of contagious nodular dermatitis affecting cattle, according to local media and traffic services.
The same sources reported that the metropolitan road M7 has been completely blocked in both directions near Pierre-Bénite, where tractors and demonstrators have occupied the roadway, cutting off traffic entirely. Protesters have also set up a camp at the site, indicating that the movement could last several days if no agreement is reached with the authorities.
Further disruptions have been reported at the A450/A7 junction, causing significant slowdowns and partial lane closures, according to road authorities.
Local authorities have put diversion measures in place and urged motorists to avoid the affected routes, advising them to plan ahead or postpone non-essential travel due to ongoing traffic difficulties.
Farmers are protesting against several government policies, notably the management of the outbreak of contagious nodular dermatitis in cattle, rising production costs, and free trade negotiations, particularly the agreement between the European Union and Mercosur countries.
