FIFA Women’s World Rankings: Algeria Climbs to 80th Place

The Algerian women’s national football team has moved up two spots to secure the 80th position in the FIFA world rankings for August, as announced by the international governing body on its official website this Thursday.
This notable advancement can be attributed to the team’s impressive performance during the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) 2024, which has been postponed to 2025. Under the guidance of coach Fardi Benstiti, the team achieved a historic qualification for the quarter-finals, increasing their total points to 1279.19.
Led by Lina Boussaha from Al-Ittihad (Saudi Arabia), the team reached the quarter-finals for the first time in its history, only to be eliminated by Ghana in a penalty shootout following a 0-0 draw (penalties: 2-4).
On the African continent, Nigeria continues to hold the top position, ranked 36th globally with 1630.86 points, after winning the African Championship for the tenth time in thirteen editions. South Africa follows in 54th place.
In the global arena, Spain has regained the top spot in the FIFA Women’s World Ranking. The finalists of UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 have overtaken the United States to reclaim the lead. La Roja recorded five consecutive victories leading up to the final, where they ultimately lost to England in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw (1-1 after extra time, 3-1 on penalties). The Lionesses thus avenged their defeat to Spain in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 final, where they lost 1-0, climbing one spot to now sit fourth in the ranking.
