Romanian Presidential Candidate Advocates for Ukraine’s Division, Annexation of Parts by Romania

Călin Georgescu, a far-right pro-Russian Romanian politician, has sparked controversy by describing Ukraine as a “fictitious state” and asserting that its eventual division is inevitable. In a conversation with journalist Ion Cristoiu, Georgescu suggested that Ukraine’s borders would shift, citing historical regions such as Northern Bukovyna, Bugeac, and Northern Maramureş, which he claimed would be absorbed by neighboring countries. He further asserted that Ukraine, which he referred to as the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, has no future as a unified state.
Georgescu’s comments highlight growing tensions over Ukraine’s territorial integrity amidst ongoing conflicts in the region, with the politician suggesting that the division of the country is unavoidable. His remarks have stirred concern in Ukraine and beyond, raising questions about geopolitical stability in Eastern Europe.
