FAO: Algeria Participates in the 47th Session of the GFCM in Rome

Algeria is participating in the 47th session of the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM), a body of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The session is being held in Rome, Italy, from November 4 to 8, as announced in a communiqué from the Ministry of Fishing and Fishery Products.

The Algerian delegation is composed of the advisor to the Minister of Fishing and Fishery Products responsible for international cooperation, the director of fishing and aquaculture activity control, and market regulation of aquatic products, as well as the director of fisheries development.

During this session, a presentation was made regarding advancements in cooperation, along with reports on activities conducted between the 2023 and 2024 sessions. These reports were presented by the Scientific Advisory Committee on Fisheries, the Working Group on the Black Sea, the Scientific Advisory Committee on Aquaculture, and the Compliance Committee, according to the same source.

The management of fisheries and aquaculture in the Mediterranean and Black Seas was also discussed, as noted in the ministry’s statement.

As part of this session, the Algerian delegation will participate on Thursday in the 14th session of the GFCM’s Administrative and Finance Committee.

On this occasion, the report from the Secretariat concerning administrative and financial matters will be presented, along with an examination of issues arising from the work of the Working Group on the Black Sea and the GFCM’s capacity development framework.

Furthermore, discussions will address the Commission’s budget and contributions from contracting parties for the period 2025-2027, the communiqué concluded.
