Twelve people were injured when a 20-year-old man armed with knives set off explosive devices on a high-speed train in Germany, before being subdued by passengers and arrested, police announced on Friday.
The suspect detonated “explosive devices,” slightly injuring twelve people before being overpowered by passengers, who locked him in a restroom, police said in a statement, adding that he was carrying two knives.
The incident occurred late Thursday on a train bound for Frankfurt am Main (western Germany), whose 180 passengers had to be evacuated.
Police said they are investigating the suspect’s motives. According to the mass-circulation daily Bild, he reportedly stated that he wanted to kill people.
Witnesses interviewed by public radio Deutschlandfunk said the explosive devices contained plastic pellets.
