Explosion at Iranian Coal Mine Raises Death Toll to 50, Injures 16

The death toll from the explosion at a coal mine in South Khorasan province, eastern Iran, has risen to 50 after one of the injured individuals succumbed to their wounds, reported the IRNA news agency on Wednesday.
Among the 16 workers injured in the explosion at the Tabas county mine, two are in critical condition, and another individual has been declared deceased following the confirmation of brain death, stated Mohammad-Ali Akhoundi, the director general of the provincial crisis management center.
The explosion, triggered by a sudden surge in methane gas concentration, occurred late Saturday night in a mine shaft located approximately 540 kilometers southeast of Tehran. Akhoundi indicated that around 65 miners were working in the mine at the time of the incident, correcting his earlier report that suggested there were 69 miners present.
