European Youth Forum Endorses Sahrawi Self-Determination, Condemns Moroccan Violations

The European Youth Forum has adopted a resolution backing the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination and control over their natural resources, while denouncing ongoing human rights violations committed by Morocco in the occupied Western Sahara territories.
The recommendation expresses strong solidarity with the Sahrawi people’s peaceful resistance and criticizes international silence—particularly from the United Nations and the MINURSO mission, which lacks a human rights monitoring mandate. It calls for a free and fair referendum in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1415 and urges European governments, especially Spain, to uphold their legal and historical obligations regarding Western Sahara.
The Forum further advocates for empowering MINURSO to monitor human rights, bolstering humanitarian aid for Sahrawi refugees, and building ties with Sahrawi youth organizations. It also endorses the formation of a working group coordinated with the Sahrawi National Council for Transitional Justice.
The Sahrawi Youth Union (UJTSARIO) welcomed the move as recognition of years of advocacy and vowed continued cooperation with international allies to end Africa’s last colonial conflict.
