EU Says No Evidence Hamas Is Stealing Aid, Calls Gaza Situation ‘Catastrophic’

BRUSSELS — The European Commission on Monday said it has seen no evidence that Hamas is stealing humanitarian aid in Gaza, pushing back against unverified allegations while warning that the humanitarian crisis in the enclave has reached catastrophic levels.

“We don’t have any reports of Hamas stealing the aid,” said Commission spokesperson Eva Hrncirova during a press briefing. She reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to neutral and independent humanitarian delivery and emphasized the urgency of utilizing established aid systems to address widespread starvation in Gaza.

The EU continues to rely on UN-led and internationally recognized organizations for aid distribution and explicitly distances itself from the Zionist-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, which has drawn condemnation from more than 170 humanitarian groups. Hrncirova stressed that “humanitarian aid can never be privatized or politicized.”

The Commission reiterated its demand that Zionist authorities grant access to EU aid partners. Since May 27, the controversial Gaza Humanitarian Foundation has been linked to deadly incidents in which hundreds of Palestinians were killed near its aid sites, according to UN officials. Over 57,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since October 2023, mostly women and children, amid a campaign of relentless Zionist bombardment that has devastated the enclave.
