EU Expands Anti-Russian Sanctions, Adds Individuals, Entities to Blacklist

The European Union has continued to expand its anti-Russian sanctions, adding 17 individuals and four legal entities to its blacklist, according to a publication in the EU’s Official Journal. The latest round of measures targets figures linked to Russian political research as well as the 142nd electronic warfare battalion based in the Kaliningrad region.
The sanctions also extend beyond Russia. These firms are accused by the EU of being connected to the so-called “shadow fleet,” which Brussels claims is used to circumvent existing restrictions on Russian energy exports and logistics.
The new listings reflect the EU’s ongoing effort to tighten enforcement and close loopholes in its sanctions framework, as part of broader pressure on Moscow amid the continuing conflict in Ukraine.
