Ethiopia: Haddadi Welcomes ‘a Lasting Peace Agreement’ Between Amhara Region And Fano Organization

The Vice-President of the African Union (AU) Commission, Selma Malika Haddadi, on Thursday welcomed the signing of a permanent peace agreement between the Ethiopian regional administration of Amhara and the Amhara Popular Fano Organization, describing this step as “an advance that strengthens the country’s future path.”
The agreement was concluded after negotiations and discussions conducted under the facilitation of the African Union and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).
The head of the regional administration, Arega Kebede, described the signing as “the first great day of peace for the people of our region,” recalling that there is no winner or loser in a conflict and that everyone benefits from peace. He expressed gratitude to those who responded to the call of the people and the government to contribute to the establishment of lasting peace.
For his part, Captain Masresha Sete, representing the Fano Organization, stressed that the end of any conflict requires dialogue and negotiation. He explained that resolving ideological differences and disagreements through discussion is an act of wisdom, not a political defeat, insisting that it is unacceptable to align with Ethiopia’s historical enemies in order to address internal issues.
For her part, the AU Commission Vice-President, Selma Malika Haddadi, played an important role in concluding such an agreement, particularly regarding the facilitation of bilateral consultations and the crystallization of consensus around this issue.
A new page is turning in Ethiopia and an era of peace is emerging after years of conflict, reinforcing the political stability of a pivotal country in the East Africa region, and symbolizing a continent that prioritizes the approach of African solutions to African problems.
