Eleven Cartel Members Killed in Army Operation in Mexico

Eleven suspected criminals were killed Thursday during a military operation in the state of Sinaloa, authorities in Mexico announced.
The navy raided homes linked to the faction of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, who has been imprisoned in the United States since 2024, according to a statement from the Ministry of Public Security.
Supporters of Zambada are in conflict with allies of the sons of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, who is also imprisoned in the United States.
As troops approached a residence they intended to search, they were met with gunfire. In response, “eleven attackers linked to the same criminal group were killed and one was arrested,” the ministry said.
The operation comes less than a month after the death of Nemesio Oseguera “El Mencho”, leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), one of Mexico’s largest criminal organizations, who was killed by the army.
Both the Sinaloa Cartel and the CJNG are considered “terrorist organizations” by the United States, the report added.
