Egypt Begins Two-Day Senate Elections with Over 69 Million Eligible Voters

CAIRO – Egypt launched elections for its Senate on Monday, with more than 69 million citizens eligible to vote over two days. Polls opened at 9 a.m. across over 8,000 stations nationwide, under full judicial supervision.

A total of 424 candidates are contesting 100 seats under the individual system, while another 100 seats are up for grabs through the “National List for Egypt.” President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly cast their votes in Cairo and Giza, respectively, urging citizens to fulfill their national duty.

International and local observers, along with media representatives, are monitoring the vote. Preliminary results will be announced on August 12, with runoffs scheduled later in the month. The 300-member Senate serves an advisory role on legislation, development plans, and constitutional matters.
