Ecuador: Presidential and Legislative Elections Scheduled for February 9

The National Electoral Council (CNE) has announced that the presidential and legislative elections in Ecuador will take place on February 9, 2025. Incumbent President Daniel Noboa is set to seek reelection in this upcoming vote.

This election follows the completion of an initial term characterized by an early election in 2023, initiated by former right-wing president Guillermo Lasso. Noboa was elected to serve the remaining 18 months of Lasso’s term, securing over 52% of the votes against leftist candidate Luisa Gonzalez, who is also campaigning for the presidency again.

In addition to electing a president, approximately 13.7 million Ecuadorian voters, including more than 456,000 residing abroad, will be responsible for selecting representatives to the National Assembly. The assembly’s membership has expanded from 137 to 151 due to “population growth,” as highlighted by the CNE.

A total of 17 individuals have declared their intent to run for the presidency.
