DR Congo: Over 80 Dead in New ADF Attack (Official)

More than 80 individuals were killed overnight from Monday to Tuesday in an attack attributed to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), local authorities reported on Tuesday.

Colonel Alain Kiwewa, the administrator of Lubero territory in North Kivu province, stated that the assault targeted a funeral gathering in the village of Ntoyo. He noted that the preliminary death toll is approximately 80, with several people still missing or potentially taken hostage by the attackers.

Since July, the ADF has escalated its assaults on villages within the Congolese provinces of North Kivu and Ituri, primarily focusing on civilian targets. According to MONUSCO, the UN peacekeeping mission in the DRC, these acts of violence resulted in at least 52 deaths between August 9 and 16 in the territories of Beni and Lubero in North Kivu.
