DR Congo: At Least 40 Killed in ADF Rebel Attack in Ituri

At least 40 civilians were killed overnight from Wednesday to Thursday in a new attack linked to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), according to local sources.
The attack took place in a locality about 40 kilometers from Niania, in the Mambasa territory, in Ituri province, a region regularly targeted by ADF offensives.
Armed men attacked several villages, killing civilians with bladed weapons and gunfire. Homes, as well as vehicles and motorcycles, were set on fire, according to local and security sources.
Videos circulating on social media reportedly show lifeless bodies on roads and in localities, as well as burned vehicles near the site of the attack.
The death toll could rise further, local civil society officials warned.
