Dozen Algerian films compete for Bouamari-Vautier Award

Nearly a dozen Algerian films are competing for Bouamari-Vautier Award that rewards a first fiction or a first documentary made by young Algerian and Franco-Algerian filmmakers, said the project initiator, France-Algeria Association.

This fifth Bouamari-Vatier Award will be awarded at a ceremony on February 14th, at the Arab World Institute in Paris.

In the feature-length fiction section, the movies “Honey Cigar,” by Karim Ainouz, “Ibrahim,” by Samir Guesmi, “Soula,” by Salah Issaad, “A Trip to Kabylie,” co-directed by Hace Mess and Mathieu Tuffreau, “Afterlife,” by Anis Djaad, and “Argu,” by Omar Belakcemi, are competing for the Bouamari-Vatier Award.

Those productions had been recently awarded in festivals in France and Tunisia,

In the documentary film section, the hit movie “Their Algeria,” by Lyna Soualem, is in competition with “Don’t Tell us Any More Stories!” co-directed by Ferhat Mouhali and Carole Filiu Mouhali and “The Faces of Victory,” by Lyece Boukhitine.

The award jury, chaired by film director Dominique Cabrera, includes Algerian filmmakers Farid Bentoumi, Tahar Boukella and Nadir Mokneche, in addition to director Alexandre Arcady and academic Denise Brahimi among others.
