Denmark Deploys Additional Troops to Greenland

Denmark is sending more soldiers to Greenland, local media reported on Monday, as part of an ongoing military buildup. The Danish Armed Forces confirmed to broadcaster TV 2 that a larger number of combat troops are expected to arrive in Kangerlussuaq on Monday evening, described as “a substantial contribution.”
Around 100 Danish soldiers are already stationed in Nuuk, Greenland’s capital, with a similar number deployed to Kangerlussuaq. The troops will participate in the “Arctic Endurance” exercise, which Danish authorities say has been accelerated following US President Donald Trump’s recent statements calling for the “complete and total purchase” of Greenland, citing its importance for US and global security.
Trump has also threatened military action and announced planned tariffs on eight European countries opposing the US move. In response, Denmark, along with the UK, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Finland, issued a joint statement condemning the threat and reaffirming their commitment to Arctic security.
