Death Toll Rises to 12 in Exploding Pager Attack in Lebanon and Syria

The death toll from a series of pager explosions that rocked Lebanon and Syria on Tuesday has risen to 12, with nearly 3,000 people wounded. The attack, which involved pagers exploding near-simultaneously, has been blamed on the Zionist entity by both Hezbollah and the Lebanese government, who described it as a sophisticated remote assault. The explosions sent shockwaves through the region, causing widespread injuries and panic.
Dr. Salah Zeineldine, Chief Medical Officer at the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC), recounted how the hospital was overwhelmed with patients shortly after the attack. Within minutes, about 200 injured individuals flooded the hospital, with 140 of them still receiving treatment. Zeineldine noted that many of the injuries were to the eyes, face, fingers, hands, and abdomen, reflecting the impact of the explosions. The hospital’s 12 operating rooms were immediately mobilized, handling severe cases that included amputations and eye loss.
As authorities work to assess the full scale of the damage, they estimate around 2,800 people were wounded in the blasts. The situation remains tense as investigations into the attack continue. The medical community is grappling with the influx of patients requiring urgent care, and hospitals in Beirut are working nonstop to treat the victims.
