Deadly Explosion at Chemical Plant in Southern India Kills at Least 35

A devastating explosion at a chemical factory in the southern Indian state of Telangana has claimed the lives of at least 35 people, according to a revised death toll released Tuesday by local authorities.
Initially, a rescue official from the Sangareddy district reported 12 deaths and several injuries just hours after the blast on Monday. “At least 35 people have died,” a local official told AFP on Tuesday.
“Search operations are still ongoing at the site,” the official added.
The plant, owned by Sigachi Industries, has suffered extensive damage. The company confirmed that operations at the facility will be suspended for a minimum of 90 days. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the explosion.
