Danish Defender Simon Kjaer Announces Retirement from Professional Football at 35

Simon Kjaer, the Danish defender, announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 35 on Tuesday. Reflecting on his career, he expressed gratitude to everyone he played with and worked alongside, thanking fans for their support both in his club career and with the Denmark national team.

Kjaer is widely remembered for his heroic actions during the 2021 European Championship when he rushed to assist teammate Christian Eriksen, who had collapsed on the pitch due to a cardiac arrest. His swift response, along with the Danish team’s medical staff, earned them the FIFA Fair Play Award.

Throughout his career, Kjaer played for clubs such as FC Midtjylland, Palermo, Fenerbahce, Roma, Sevilla, and most recently AC Milan. He was instrumental in helping Milan win the Serie A title in 2022. With 132 caps for Denmark and experience in three World Cups and two European Championships, Kjaer leaves a remarkable legacy in international football.
