Conference of Constitutional Jurisdictions of Africa: Constitutional Court takes part in 4th Legal Meeting

A delegation from the Constitutional Court, is participating as from Thursday, in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), in the 4th Legal Meeting of the Conference of the Constitutional Jurisdictions of Africa, according to a statement from the same body.

The source said that “at invitation from the Conference of African Constitutional Courts, in partnership with Ethiopia’s Supreme and Constitutional Court, and at the direction of Constitutional Court President Leïla Aslaoui, Court members Bahri Saadallah and Nait Kassi Wardia are attending the Conference’s Fourth Legal Meeting in Addis Ababa from 27 to 30 November 2025.” The meeting will explore various themes including “Constitutionalism and State-Building in Africa.”

Saadallah will deliver a presentation on behalf of Aslaoui titled “From Traditional to Modern Constitutionalism: The Algerian Model,” examining Algeria’s constitutional journey over six decades toward a decisive shift that established rule of law and constitutional limits on power through enhanced constitutional justice, the establishment of a Constitutional Court, and broadened rights and freedoms encompassing future generations.

The 4th Legal Meeting seeks “to explore the relationship between constitutionalism and nation-building in African countries, focusing on how constitutional frameworks strengthen democratic governance and state institutional stability, and to assess constitutionalists’ role in advancing democracy, rule of law, and human rights throughout Africa,” according to the statement.
